I was really a great fan of James.. I lived in Duncan BC and moved to Hillsborough, NB watching James on the Urban Peasant.. I really was fond of his cooking and how he really put a splash into it.. He was funny and just made cooking fun..
I went to NBCC college thinking of being a nursing assistant.. And somehow the tour of the kitchen had mada calling for me.. Maybe James was a big influence to me.. I love cooking with a passion and one day hope to run a full time catering business.. Right now I do this on a part time basis..
I am here in Vancouver and going to visit moncton.. Hoping I could visit James possibly and meet him for the first time.. However I just come to realize that he has passed away.. I will surely miss his quirk and hope that maybe I can use some of his talent for my own use..
I enjoyed seeing the pictures of JAMES! It goes to show how interesting he was. I just pulled out his companion cookbook and made a terrific meal for my husband and I. I had forgotten how simple and delicious his meals/approach was to cooking. Thank You James for instilling a sense of wonder with food. Your approach and appeal was instrimental in my love of food.
In February 2009, US television was going digital. I prepared my tv set to comply with the new broadcasting; and what was the first new program I watched? James Barber, The Urban Peasant. I adore James Barber’s cooking shows and became a loyal fan of his series. His show came on at 5:00 AM and I set my alarm so that I could enjoy a cup of coffee while watching The Urban Peasant. Now, is that dedication or what? I hope that his series will continue to run for a very long time. He lives on in his books and tv shows.
hi!
i watched james’ show last sunday and wanted to try his recipe that included apricots, spinach and red peppers over pasta.
i only just learned that he is no longer with us.
my prayers to his family.

Gracias, James Barber.
To manuel canul: I was just introduced to James Barber through his cooking show on TV… I found him very talented and with a great sense of humor. But, after reading the information provided on this website, I found out he passed away in 2007. But like all great talents, his contribution continues on enlightening newer generations, like mine. I hope they continue showing his program on TV. Thank you, James Barber.
James Barber lives on in my kitchen. I have taken many of his wonderful quirky sayings and use them regularly, like, “Never apologize for your cooking.” and “Bung it in the oven.” I am delighted to learn that James is being aired on ION and record him to watch when I can. When someone asks, “Where did you learn to cook?”, I always tell them, from James Barber.
We just started watching, The Urban Peasant the last couple of months. at 1:30 a.m pacific time, on Ion Life 30.3 in the USA. We just love James Barber, he has his own way of cooking that we enjoy so much. His tips that he gave, we have tried and they have always worked…like the cutting of a cucumber to make it look pretty, as he says. We get one new show once a week, and it reruns everyday during that week. He makes us laugh that we can watch the reruns over and over…we just love James Barber. We are daughter and mother and love to cook together and thanks to James Barber we are having more fun when we cook because we try his ways.
Thanks for publishing this web-site, for sharing the photos, and for giving us more information on James Barber. And thank you for keeping James Barber at our fingertips.

Since we last wrote on Jan. 28th, Ion Life has taken, The Urban Peasant off the air. It has been three weeks but it seems like months because we miss watching James Barber. We hope his DVD comes out soon…
