The Urban Peasant cooking series first appeared on Canada’s CBC television in 1991 and soon became an international hit in more than 120 countries around the world. In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the first episode we are pleased to offer The Urban Peasant: Meals in Minutes Volume 1.
The DVD includes 10 episodes featuring 35 simple and delicious recipes. Whip up a Spinach Salad with Roasted Garlic, followed with pan fried Chicken, Apples and Cilantro and a grand finish of Chocolate Cake Muffins… Simple, good for you and on the table quicker than getting a pizza delivered!

When I lived in Va before l993, my husband (retired, I was still working)
taped all of your programs for me religiously. I thoroughly enjoyed each
and every one of them. I have often thought of you and wondered it you
were still taping. I am so happy to see that you are and now making DVD’s as well.

I just happily ordered Volume One and really hope there will be a Volume Two in the near future. As a baker and pastry chef for a number of years during the original Urban Peasant broadcasts, I can say that James was an inspiration. So many great dishes and memories.
I had the pleasure of meeting him briefly during one of his live sessions at the Calgary Stampede in the late 90′s. I was amazed at how even his live cooking demo was so similar to his show and it was a real pleasure to have seen.
Wow! Am I ever happy to find this site, and see that there is a DVD available. I used to LOVE watching James Barber on T.V. He gave me an appreciation for cooking with “what you have on hand”, and for using delightful serving dishes! He is fondly remembered.
An amazing DVD. Brings back lots of memories..followed his recipes and only wish he hadn’t left this world so soon. I’m happy to have ordered this DVD and can only hope there will be a Volume Two. I was also pleasantly surprised with excellent customer service and very fast shipping from this site. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who loved James and his cooking.
